Dean uses this series to incorporate his Mexican-American grandmother to demonstrate assumptions of labor relations and familial exclusion by virtue of their physical differences. Largely carrying the traits of his absent white father, Dean photographically questions race, public perception and legacies of whitness in one of his only bodies of work employing another person.
